RedStorm sweeps Trailblazers for third straight win

CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio - The final week of regular season play couldn't have started any better for the University of Rio Grande women's volleyball team.
The RedStorm was the beneficiary of a balanced attack along the net and posted a 25-21, 25-16, 25-21 triumph over Ohio Christian University, Tuesday night, in River States Conference play at the Maxwell Center.
Rio Grande won for a third straight time, improving to 17-10 overall and 10-7 against conference foes.
The host Trailblazers, who are leaving the league and the NAIA at the close of the current school year, dropped to 12-18 overall and 7-11 in the RSC with the Senior Night loss.
Rio Grande had five players with seven or more kills in the match and finished with 51 kills and 19 attack errors in 166 swings for a .193 attack percentage.
Junior Jordan Brooks (Reynoldsburg, OH) and senior Amanda Rarick (Canal Winchester, OH) led the way with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Brooks finished with a .381 attack percentage on the night.
Juniors Avery Huntzinger (Canal Winchester, OH) and Sofia Otero Marrero (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) tallied 21 and 20 assists, respectively, while junior Ashton Webb (Gallipolis, OH) had a team-best 20 digs.
Freshman Jenna Harrison (Gallipolis, OH) had 15 digs of her own to go along with a pair of service aces, while sophomore Kayla Sedgwick (Richwood, OH) and Otero Marrero had 13 and 11 digs, respectively.
Freshman McKenna Diedrich (Pickerington, OH) had two solo blocks in the winning effort.
Madison Blickenstaff had nine kills to pace Ohio Christian, which totaled 30 kills and 18 errors over 151 attacks (.079) as a team.
Morgan Blakeman had one solo block and two block assists in the loss, while Brittlyn Call had four block assists of her own.
Sophie Coleman paced the Trailblazers with 23 digs, while Josie Buck and Caraline Ferguson finished with 14 and 12 of their own, respectively, and Rylie Barr was credited with a match-best 27 assists.
Rio Grande returns to action on Friday night when it hosts Alice Lloyd College for Senior Night.
First serve is set for 7 p.m. at the Newt Oliver Arena.
