Tigers spoil Rio's Senior Day

     RIO GRANDE, Ohio - Campbellsville University committed just three attack errors for the entire match and spoiled Senior Day for the University of Rio Grande by posting a 25-11, 25-15, 25-21 win over the RedStorm, Saturday afternoon, in River States Conference men's volleyball action at the Newt Oliver Arena.
     The Tigers, who were just outside the latest NAIA Coaches' Top 15 poll, improved to 18-6 overall and 10-1 in conference play with the win.
     Rio Grande, which was playing its final home match, slipped to 12-11 overall and 4-8 in the RSC as a result of the loss.
     Campbellsville did not have an attack error in the opening set, while committing just one in the second stanza and two in the final period.
     The Tigers finished with 39 kills against the three errors over 61 total attacks for an eye-popping .590 attack percentage.
     Campbellsville never trailed in the opening set and used a 12-1 run to break things open and take the early match lead.
     Rio Grande enjoyed a 6-4 lead in set two following a kill by senior Tyler Miller-Bross (Loveland, OH), but the Tigers responded with four straight winners and 10 of the next 13 points and never trailed again.
     Set three began with four consecutive Campbellsville points before the RedStorm countered with four of their own, but the Tigers used a 4-0 run to break a 5-all deadlock and never trailed again on their way to closing out the match.
     Mason McKinney and David Barcan had 10 kills each for Campbellsville, while Alonzo Vega added 31 assists and three of the Tigers' 10 service aces.
     Moritz Frauendorf had nine digs to lead CU, while McKinney had a solo block and a block assist in the winning effort. Barcan and Pedro Zavatini had two block assists each.
     Rio Grande recorded a .125 swing percentage for the match (26 kills, 17 assists, 72 attacks).
     Senior Daniel Bedoya (Acacias, Colombia) led the RedStorm at the net with eight kills, while freshman Camilo Murillo (Cali, Colombia) had 15 assists and freshman Maaz Khan (Peshawar, Pakistan) had six digs.
     Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action next Friday when it opens a two-game weekend road swing at Indiana University East.
     First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Lingle Court in Richmond, Ind.
