RedStorm men upend Rams

     BLUEFIELD, Va. - Daniel Bedoya led a trio of strong performances along the net for the University of Rio Grande as the RedStorm posted a 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-21, 25-23) win over Bluefield University, Tuesday night, in non-conference men's volleyball action at the Dome Gym.
     Rio Grande, which won for the fifth time in its last six outings, pushed its season record to 5-3 with the victory.
     Bluefield, which lost to Rio for the second time in a week, slipped to 3-3 with the loss.
     Bedoya finished with 16 kills in the winning effort, while Daniel Rivas and Otavio Tonoli tallied 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
     Tonoli, who hit .471 for the match (10 kills, 2 errors, 17 swings), also had 10 digs, a solo block and two block assists.
     Rio Grande also got 40 assists from Mitch Bartecki and 14 digs from Maaz Khan in the win, while Tyler Miller-Bross had five block assists.
     As a team, the RedStorm finished with a .208 attack percentage (45 kills, 24 errors, 101 attacks).
     Bluefield actually had a better swing percentage (.267) with 52 kills and 21 errors in 116 attacks, but was undermined by 23 service errors.
     Dakari Williams and Mason Lloyd had 22 and 14 kills, respectively, to pace the Rams, while Benedict Somes had 46 assists and Colby Mutter totaled nine digs.
     Lloyd also had three service aces, a solo block and two block assists in the loss and General Smith had six block assists.
     Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action next Tuesday, Feb. 11, when it travels to Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
