COLUMBUS, Ind. - Delon McCloud netted a game-high 23 points, including the first 10 of the contest, to lead the University of Rio Grande in a 106-58 rout of Indiana University Columbus, Friday night, in River States Conference men's basketball action at Circle K Fieldhouse at Nexus Park.
The game was moved up from its original schedule of Saturday afternoon to avoid inclement weather, which was forecast to cover much of the country on Saturday into Sunday.
The RedStorm won for a third consecutive outing, improving to 5-3 against RSC foes and evening their overall record at 10-10.
The 106 points represented a new single-game high for head coach Ryan Arrowood's squad this season, while the team's 59.4 percent overall shooting mark (41-for-69) also established a new single-game high.
Rio also connected on 12 of its 26 three-point tries, marking the club's third straight outing of 12 or more trifectas.
McCloud, a senior from Grand Rapids, Mich., hit all of his five three-pointers and scored all but four of his points in the opening half as the RedStorm exploded for a 54-22 advantage.
Rio had one other 20-point scorer and had two others finish with 18 points in the victory.
Senior Jaylin Fox (South Haven, MI) had the 20-point effort, going 8-for-9 from the floor overall, while hitting his only three-point try and going 3-for-3 at the foul line. It was first 20-point game since scoring 22 in a win over Cleary (Mich.) on Nov. 15.
Senior Jaelin Johnson (Fairmont, WV) and freshman Brody Buchanan (Proctorville, OH) finished with 18 points each, while junior James Wright (Detroit, MI) came off the bench to score 12 points and yank down a game-high 10 rebounds. Buchanan, who was making his first collegiate start, had scored just 26 points over his previous 18 appearances in a reserve role.
Senior Trey Robertson (Waverly, OH) added a team-best nine assists and four steals in the winning effort for the RedStorm, whose largest lead of the night was 54 points, 104-50, after a three-pointer by freshman Luke Sanders (Cincinnati, OH) with 2:44 left in the game.
IU Columbus (2-18 overall, 0-8 RSC) shot just 28.6 percent in the first half (8-for-28) and finished the night at just 35 percent (21-for-60).
Kyan Reichhoff led the host Crimson Pride with 14 points and two steals and was the team's only double-digit scorer.
Trevin Lieck and Airrion Boyd had six rebounds each in a losing cause, while Damontae Thompson had five assists.
Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday night against Midway University.
Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. at the Newt Oliver Arena.
