KANSAS CITY, Mo. – University of Rio Grande senior Madi Ogden collected her second consecutive NAIA Softball Pitcher of the Week honor, while Amber Gainer from the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) was named the national Softball Player of the Week on Tuesday.
The duo was selected based on their performances from April 21-27 out of a pool of conference/Continental Athletic Conference (Independents)/Unaffiliated group nominees.
Ogden appeared in three games, tossing three shutouts to extend her shutout streak to six-consecutive starts.
She was one out away from a perfect game in the first game of the week, a win over Ohio Christian.
Ogden has now thrown 38.1 consecutive scoreless innings, a stretch that included a no-hitter and, in her last nine appearances, is 8-1 with a 0.24 ERA.
Ogden is the first player to receive back-to-back NAIA Pitcher of the Week awards since Sophie Williams of Science and Arts (Okla.) accomplished the feat April 16 and 23 of last year.
The award marked Ogden's third national recognition of the season.
Gainer, a senior outfielder, hit .818 (9-for-11) in a three-game sweep for the Patriots over Georgetown (Ky.).
She did not strike out in a dozen total plate appearances and walked once for an .833 on-base percentage.
Gainer stole three bases and scored seven runs, including three runs scored in the series finale April 27. She had three extra-base hits, including a triple in the middle game of the series and two doubles in the finale, driving in five runs on the week.
