Ogden claims NAIA Pitcher of the Week honor

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Madi Ogden from the University of Rio Grande was named the NAIA Softball Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday, while Lauren Steenstra of Dordt (Iowa) earned NAIA Softball Player of the Week honors.
The duo was selected based on their performances from March 17-23 and were chosen out of a pool of conference/Continental Athletic Conference (Independents)/Unaffiliated group nominees.
Ogden put together 20.1 immaculate innings of work from the circle over six games last week.
The Williamsburg, Ohio senior went 3-0 on the week, tossing as many shutouts and striking out 13 or more batters in each start with no walks.
Ogden finished the week with 43 total strikeouts, only seven hits allowed, two saves, and a .34 WHIP.
She becomes just the second player in Rio Grande program history to earn the national award, joining Ariel Roder, who won Player of the Week honors on March 22, 2016.
Steenstra, a junior first baseman, had a record-setting week as she slugged her way to tie the school record.
Steenstra posted a 3.333 slugging percentage with four total home runs, three of which came against Doane (Neb.) and tied the school record for most in a single game.
Over two games for the Defenders, she hit 1.000 going a perfect 6-for-6 with five runs scored and eight RBI.
