     OWENSBORO, Ky. - The University of Rio Grande softball team wrapped up a week-long, 10-game road swing on Saturday by sweeping a doubleheader from Brescia University in River States Conference action at Kamuf Park.
     The RedStorm banged out 16 hits in an 11-3 mercy rule shortened win in game one, while pulling away down the stretch for a 10-5 triumph in game two.
     Rio Grande finished the day at 22-14 overall and 12-6 in conference play.
     The host Bearcats dropped to 6-14 overall and 3-9 in the RSC.
     In the opener, the RedStorm blew things open by scoring six times in the top of the third inning to grab a 7-0 lead.
     Sophomore Boo Sturgill (Wheelersburg, OH) had a two-run single in the big rally, while freshman Lexi Thompson (Shelby, OH) had an RBI single, freshman Gabby Adams (Grove City, OH) contributed a run-scoring double and senior Christen Risner (Wheelersburg, OH) drew a bases-loaded walk.
     Sturgill finished 3-for-5 with three RBI, while Adams and Thompson both had two hits and drove in two runs.
     Risner and junior Caitlyn Brisker (Oak Hill, OH) both had two hits and a run batted in, while freshman Madison Perry (Portsmouth, OH) and junior Lexi Carnahan (Felicity, OH) both finished 2-for-4.
     Junior Sydney Campolo (New Lexington, OH) got the win in the pitcher's circle, allowing eight hits in a complete game effort.
     Brescia avoided a shutout with a three-run home run by Zoe Smithson in the third inning.
     Keely Eans started and lost for the Bearcats, allowing nine hits and six runs over 2-1/3 innings.
     In game two, Rio Grande carried a 3-2 lead into the top of the sixth inning before scoring five times to open up a comfortable lead and start the process of pulling away.
     Carnahan highlighted the five-run sixth with a two-run single, while Thompson and Risner added RBI triples.
     Risner also had a double to finish 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Carnahan had two hits and drove in three runs.
     Adams finished 2-for-3 with a double and a run batted in, while Brisker homered and drove in two runs and Perry added a triple of her own.
     Junior Kali Brickman (Huber Heights, OH) went the distance to get the win, allowing 12 hits and the five runs.
     Mikah Goeppner had a pair of doubles for Brescia, while Savannah Jones and Lindsey Peyton had two hits and a run batted in each.
     Hayden Pulliam also had two hits in a losing cause.
     Hannah Hailey started and lost for the hosts, allowing eight hits and as many runs over 5-1/3 innings.
     Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action on Friday at Ohio Christian University.
