Rio records straight sets win over Red Wolves

     RICHMOND, Ind. - The University of Rio Grande men's volleyball team got its River States Conference weekend road swing off on the right foot, posting a 26-24, 25-18, 28-26 win over Indiana University East, Friday night, at Lingle Court.
     The RedStorm improved to 13-11 overall and 5-8 in league play with the straight sets victory.
     The host Red Wolves dropped to 3-18 overall and 2-11 in league play.
     Although it did manage to force extra play in the first and third stanzas, IU East struggled offensively throughout the contest and finished with four more attack errors (29) than kills (25) over 87 swings for a -.046 attack percentage.
     Still, Rio Grande trailed 21-19 late in the opening set before scoring seven of the final 10 winners to take an early match lead.
     The RedStorm led just 12-11 in set two, but a 9-2 spurt helped head coach Nick Rawls' team pull away and take a commanding match lead.
     Rio pulled away at the end of a back-and-forth third set to close out the match.
     The RedStorm finished with 34 kills and 21 errors in 85 attacks for a swing percentage of .153.
     Senior Daniel Bedoya (Acacias, Colombia) led Rio with 13 kills, while freshman Camilo Murillo (Cali, Colombia) had 21 assists and freshman Daniel Rivas (Valle Del Cauca, Colombia) had 10 digs.
     Senior Tyler Miller-Bross (Loveland, OH) had a solo block and four block assists, while senior Cam Griffith (Columbus, OH) contributed a solo block and three block assists to the winning effort.
     Arthur Barreto had eight kills and six digs to lead IUE, with Britian Givens handing out 21 assists and Wyatt King finishing with a solo block and two block assists.
     The RedStorm will close out their road trip on Saturday at Midway University. First serve is set for 4 p.m. at Marshall Gymnasium.
