RedStorm sweeps weekly RSC awards

     MIDDLETOWN, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande posted a sweep of the River States Conference Men's Volleyball Player of the Week awards announced on Monday.
     Daniel Bedoya was named Attacker of the Week, while Mitch Bartecki grabbed Setter of the Week honors and Maaz Khan was tabbed Defender of the Week.
     Bedoya, a senior opposite hitter from Acacias, Colombia, powered Rio Grande's attack in the second week of the season, racking up over 100 kills in five matches.
     Bedoya led Rio Grande to a 4-1 record in those matches, and recorded at least 17 kills in each contest. His best performance came in a four-set win over Aquinas, where he racked up 26 kills in four sets, good for 6.50 kills per set.
     Bartecki, a junior from Valparaiso, Indiana, logged 192 assists on the week, averaging 9.6 assists per set for the RedStorm.
     Bartecki averaged 10 or more assists in two matches and averaged at least 8.75 per set in all five. His weekly top performance came in a five-set nailbiter against Siena Heights, where he racked up 48 assists in a victory.
     Khan, a freshman libero who hails from Peshawar, Pakistan, was the leader of Rio's defense in a busy week.
     Khan had 94 digs in five matches, hitting double figures in four of the five matches - all Rio wins. His high on the week was 29 digs in four sets, leading the RedStorm to a victory over Park Gilbert (Az.) on Friday.
