Bedoya named MVP of Rio Invitational

RIO GRANDE, Ohio - University of Rio Grande opposite side hitter Daniel Bedoya was named the Most Valuable Player of the Rio Grande Invitational Tournament, which wrapped up its two-day run on Saturday at the Newt Oliver Arena.
Bedoya helped the RedStorm to a 3-1 record in the four-match, round-robin event.
A senior from Acacias, Colombia, Bedoya tallied 85 kills and a .226 attack percentage for Rio during wins over Siena Heights (Mich.), Park-Gilbert (Az.) and Aquinas (Mich.) and a loss to Life (Ga.).
Joining Bedoya on the All-Tournament team was Siena Heights setter Zak Taylor, outside hitters Mason Lloyd of Bluefield and Serano Keijl from Life, middle blockers Johnathan Stovring of Siena Heights and Vincent Eisinga from Life and Rio Grande freshman libero Maaz Khan (Peshawar, Pakistan).
Khan totaled 82 digs in the RedStorm's four matches.
The first alternate was Oakland City University's Hazem Nabil Abdelghafar.
The team was selected through balloting of the participating head coaches.
