Rio Grande Sports Information
SWANNANOA, N.C. - The University of Rio Grande enjoyed what was easily its best attack percentage of the season and cruised to a 3-0 win over Warren Wilson College, Monday night, in non-conference men's volleyball action at DeVries Gymnasium.
The RedStorm took the match by scores of 25-20, 25-15, 25-12.
Head coach Nick Rawls' squad pushed its overall record to 6-14 with the victory.
The host Owls, an NCAA Division III school, slipped to 6-9 with the loss.
Rio Grande recorded a blistering .441 attack percentage in the match with 40 kills and just 10 errors in 68 total swings.
The mark eclipsed the team's previous single-game high mark of .236, which was set in a win at home over Warren Wilson on Feb. 24.
The RedStorm led, essentially, for most of the night.
In set one, the Owls led 7-6 before consecutive kills by senior Caden Donaldson (Jackson, OH) put Rio in front to stay.
The RedStorm's lone deficit in set two came at 1-0, with an 8-3 scoring run by the visitors producing a commanding 19-9 advantage and blowing things open for good.
Rio never trailed in the third set and led by as many as 14 points late in the period before settling on a 13-point cushion and the match victory.
Donaldson led the RedStorm with a match-best 17 kills, while sophomore Mitch Bartecki (Valparaiso, IN) had 34 assists and junior Seth Mohr (Canton, OH) had nine digs.
Junior Cam Griffith (Columbus, OH) had a solo block and a block assist in the victory, while junior Sam Kaylor (Lewis Center, OH) had three of the team's seven service aces.
Ian Nicholson led Warren Wilson with 10 kills, while Ryan Daly, Jr. had 16 assists and the duo of Ricky Castillo and Will Jack had four digs each.
The Owls finished the contest with a .136 swing percentage, tallying 22 kills and 13 errors in 66 attacks.
Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday night at St. Andrews University.
First serve is set for 7 p.m.
