RedStorm foursome named to All-Ohio team

     WILMINGTON, Ohio – Four members of the University of Rio Grande's NAIA Men's Soccer national semifinalist squad have been named to the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association's NAIA/Division II All-Ohio team.
     The 16-player squad was comprised of a goalkeeper, five defenders, six midfielders and four forwards.
     Representing the RedStorm were midfielders Vilis Labutis and Charlie Chechlacz, forward Gabriel Silva and defender Rodrigo Basso.
     Labutis, a junior from Ireland, was a first team NAIA All-American selection after earlier earning the River States Conference Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year awards. He ranked second on the team with 18 goals and 43 goals and is seven assists were fifth on the club.
     Chechlacz, a senior from Liecestershire, England, had six goals, tied for the team lead in assists with 11 and finished the season with 23 points. He was a second team NAIA All-American.
     Silva, a sophomore from Sao Luis, Brazil led Rio in both goals (21) and points (52), while finishing in a tie for third with 10 assists. Like Chechlacz, he was named to the NAIA All-American second team.
     Basso, a junior from Santiago, Chile and an honorable mention All-American selection, helped anchor the Rio defensive effort. He had one goal and an one assist.
     The RedStorm finished 18-4-2 after falling to eventual national champion Bethel (Ind.) University in the semifinal round of the national tournament.
