RIO GRANDE, Ohio - Gabriel Silva netted three goals to fuel the University of Rio Grande's 4-0 victory over St. Mary-of-the-Woods College, Thursday night, in River States Conference men's soccer play at chilly Evan E. Davis Field.
The RedStorm, ranked No. 21 in the latest NAIA coaches' poll, pushed their overall record to 11-3-2 while improving to 7-0-1 in conference play.
Head coach Scott Morrissey's club won for a third straight time and is 8-0-2 since a three-game losing slide earlier in the year.
The visiting Pomeroys dropped to 3-6 overall and 3-5 against RSC foes.
Silva, a sophomore from Sao Luis, Brazil, scored each of Rio's final three markers in the contest.
Freshman Altan Sayar (Switzerland) had the RedStorm's first goal of the night, scoring off of a pass from junior Benjamin Cam Orellana (Santiago, Chile) just over five minutes into the match, while Silva found the back of the net off a touch by junior Osvaldo Pereria (Campo Grande, Brazil) 16 minutes later to make it 2-0.
That's how things stayed until Silva scored via a feed from senior Charlie Chechlacz (Liecestershire, England) with 13:01 left to play.
Chechlacz also assisted on Silva's final goal with 2:52 remaining to set the final score.
Rio Grande enjoyed a whopping 31-2 edge in shots and a 14-0 cushion in shots on frame. The RedStorm also had six of the game's seven corner kick chances.
Junior Oton Merin Torro (Spain) picked up the win in goal for Rio.
Andrew Aceituno had 10 saves in a losing cause for the Pomeroys.
Rio Grande closes out its regular season schedule on Saturday when it hosts Brescia University for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
