Hundley leads RedStorm past Harriers

RIO GRANDE, Ohio - Trent Hundley netted a career-high 18 points to pace four double-digit scorers for the University of Rio Grande and lead the RedStorm to a 77-62 win over Miami University-Hamilton, Saturday afternoon, in non-conference men's basketball action at the Newt Oliver Arena.
The RedStorm, who remained perfect in six all-time meetings with the Harriers, won for the fourth straight time and improved to 5-3 with the victory.
MU-Hamilton, which suffered a second straight loss, slipped to 2-5 with the loss.
Hundley, a freshman from Mount Orab, Ohio, fueled Rio's winning effort, scoring 10 points in the opening half and adding eight more after the break. He connected on seven of his 13 field goal attempts overall, including four three-pointers, while also finishing with six rebounds and a game-high four steals.
The RedStorm also got double-figure outings from junior Miki Tadic (Hilversum, The Netherlands) and senior Shiloah Blevins (South Webster, OH), who netted 16 points apiece, and from freshman Kaden Warner (Cincinnati, OH), who tallied 14 points.
Tadic also had a game-high seven rebounds and four assists.
Rio Grande scored the game's first eight points and never trailed, but watched the Harriers close the gap to three on four separate occasions before settling on a 37-31 advantage at the intermission.
The RedStorm's lead still stood at six, 44-38, after a three-pointer by Hamilton's Ryan Marchal with 16:44 left in the game, but Rio responded with a 14-4 run over the next five minutes to open up a 16-point cushion.
MU-Hamilton got no closer than 12 points the rest of the way and Rio led by as many as 18 points on two occasions inside the final 7-1/2 minutes.
The RedStorm shot 43 percent overall (29-for-67), just under 41 percent from three-point range (13-for-32) and committed just five turnovers.
The Harriers connected on 24 of their 49 shots overall (49 percent) and five of their 15 three-point attempts (33.3%), while committing 13 turnovers.
Marchal led MU-H with a game-high 21 points to go along with five rebounds and four assists.
Jamison Bradley added 16 points in a losing cause, while King Goss had six rebounds and four assists of his own.
Rio Grande returns to action on Tuesday night when it travels to Pittsburgh, Pa. for a River States Conference meeting with Point Park University.
Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
