Kerns leads Rio women to Classic title

     RIO GRANDE, Ohio - Amarissa Kerns topped a trio of runners from the University of Rio Grande at the front of the pack and led the University of Rio Grande women's cross country team to a title in the RedStorm Classic, Friday afternoon, at the Rio Grande Cross Country Course.
     Kerns, a freshman from Lancaster, Ohio, finished the ladies' two-mile run in a time of 11:59, while teammate and fellow frosh Olivia Cisco was a distant second with a time of 12:23.
     Sophomore Jayden Roach (Baltimore, OH) finished third in the 21-runner field with a time of 13:11.
     The RedStorm finished with 21 points as a team, while Central State University was second with 34 points and the University of Pikeville was third with 72 points.
     Also running for the RedStorm was sophomore Abrielle Kerns (Lancaster, OH), who finished fifth in a time of 13:48; freshman Kaylor Offenberger (Waterford, OH), who was 10th after crossing in 15:07; and freshman Natalie Brammer (Wheelersburg, OH), who was 12th in a time of 15:46.
     Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action next Saturday at the River States Conference Championships in Kokomo, Ind. Race time is slated for 11:30 a.m.
