RedStorm duo finishes fourth at Carthage Classic

KENOSHA, Wis. - Three of the four women wrestling for the University of Rio Grande earned place-holder status at Sunday's Carthage Classic hosted by Carthage College at the N.E. Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center.
Sophomore Haley Williams (Mason, OH) captured fourth place at 110 pounds, while her teammate, freshman Alexandria Evans (Barboursville, WV), took fifth place in the same bracket.
Williams' win came against Midway University's Lana Reeves by technical fall, 10-0, at 2:33 of their match, while Evans earned two wins against Jackie Zuniga from the Milwaukee School of Engineering - one by technical fall, 10-0, at 3:13 and the other in a 10-4 decision.
Freshman Paige Russell (Kettering, OH) also finished fourth at 160 pounds after winning two of her five bouts.
The wins both came by fall - at 0:42 against Isabel Zabronsky of Michigan Club Wrestling, and at 1:54 against Clara Rice from Elmhurst.
Sophomore Annalis Ortez-Pierce (Portland, OR) also represented Rio Grande in the 138-pound bracket and posted one win in three tries. Her victory was a 15-4 technical fall triumph at 4:12 against Michigan Club Wrestling's Rachel Griggs.
As a team, Rio amassed 30 points and finished seventh among the 11 participating schools.
North Central College took top honors with 233 points, while Wisconsin Stevens Point (172 pts.) and Elmhurst (129 pts.) rounded out the top three.
The RedStorm is scheduled to return to action on Sunday, Dec. 21, at the West Liberty Duals in West Liberty, W.Va.
