Williams grabs first-place finish for Rio at LWC Open

     COLUMBIA, Ky. - University of Rio Grande freshman Haley Williams captured a first place finish to lead a trio of wrestlers representing the RedStorm in Saturday's Lindsey Wilson Women's Open at the Doris & Bob Holloway Health and Wellness Center.
     Williams, a native of Mason, Ohio, went undefeated in a pair of matches at 110 pounds.
     She posted a 6-4 decision over Lindsey Wilson's Payton Agnell and then routed Audrey Smith - who was wrestling unattached - by a 10-1 tally.
     Williams' teammates, sophomore Kara Bebout (Mechanicsburg, OH) and freshman Annalis Ortez-Pierce (Portland, OR), also placed in their respective weight classes.
     Bebout placed fifth at 145 pounds, while Ortez-Pierce took eighth place at 138 pounds.
     After receiving a first round bye, Bebout was pinned by Lindsey Wilson's Lexi Ritchie at the 0:45 mark, but she responded by winning each of her next three matches.
     Bebout defeated Natalie Giocondo from Emory and Henry College by fall at 1:33 and then posted a 12-2 technical fall decision over Angelina Temprano of Campbellsville University.
     Bebout pinned Genesis Chinchilla of Greensboro College at 1:25 of the fifth-place match.
     Ortez-Pierce received a bye into the quarterfinals, where she was pinned a 0:43 by Addison Messerly rom Campbellsville University.
     She followed up with an 11-0 technical fall win over Delilah Garcia (Unattached) before being pinned by Indiana University's Maggie Boncosky at 2:33 and dropping a 10-7 decision to Judea Higgins-Morris of Campbellsville in the seventh-place match.
     Rio Grande is slated to return to action on Feb. 28 at the Mid-South Conference Championship in Bowling Green, Ky.
