Quartet represent Rio in Tornado Open

BRISTOL, Tenn. - Three University of Rio Grande women's wrestlers represented the RedStorm in Sunday's Tornado Open hosted by King College.
A fourth grappler with ties to the Rio program also participated Unattached and finished as the runner-up in her weight division.
Freshman Angie Alvarado (Lima, Peru) wrestled Unattached in the 117-pound bracket and reached the championship match.
After grabbing a first-round bye, Alvarado pinned Emily Anderson of Campbellsville University at 5:30 and defeated Natalia Sanchez from Emory & Henry at 1:12 before losing to King's Claire Booe by fall at the 0:18 mark of the title bout.
Freshman Haley Williams (Mason, OH) garnered a pair of wins at 110 pounds, defeating Elise Toste from the University of the Cumberlands by fall at 2:53 and pinning Alex Uribe of Cumberlands - who was wrestling Unattached - at 1:23.
Williams also dropped an 8-3 decision to Gabrielle Medeiros of Campbellsville and lost by technical fall (13-2) to Cumberlands' Ryleigh Hayes.
At 145 pounds, sophomore Kara Bebout (Mechanicsburg, OH) followed up a first round bye with a 10-0 technical fall win over Kayleigh Savage of Mount Olive, but then dropped consecutive outings by fall to Emma Walker of Campbellsville at 1:47 and to Amber Hunter-Snyder from Frostburg State at 5:47.
Freshman Annalis Ortez-Pierce (Portland, OR) also represented Rio Grande at 138 pounds, but lost to eventual champion Jennifer Soto (Unattached) by fall at 0:10 and to Gabriella Perez of Campbellsville by fall at 1:50.
Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, Jan. 25, at Indiana Tech University's Warrior Open in Fort Wayne, Ind.
