Rio's Williams takes first place at Hilltopper Open

     WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. - All three representatives from the University of Rio Grande women's wrestling team finished in the top three of their respective weight classes at Sunday's Hilltopper Open hosted by West Liberty State University at the Academic Sports and Recreation Complex.
     Freshman Haley Williams (Mason, OH) captured the top spot in the 110-pound bracket, while sophomore Kara Bebout (Mechanicsburg, OH) was the runner-up at 145 pounds and freshman Annalis Ortez-Pierce (Portland, OR) finished third at 138 points.
     Williams went 3-0 en route to her championship, defeating West Liberty's Nila Bland by fall at 2:08, Manchester's Jackeline Shackleford by fall at 1:43 and Molly Lehnmann of Baldwin Wallace by at fall 1:25.
     Bebout went 3-1 on the day, pinning Brielle Chavez, who was wrestling Unattached, at 2:23 before topping Rilee Swaim of Manchester by technical fall, 10-0.
     She then pinned Bethany's Jasmine Craddock at 1:58 before losing by fall to West Liberty's Grace O'Korn at 3:55.
     Ortez-Pierce suffered consecutive losses by fall to West Liberty's Skylear Smith (0:58) and McKinley Jovanovich, who was wrestling Unattached (2:35).
     Ortez-Pierce finished her day by pinning Kasey Kophany from Bethany at 3:26.
     Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action on Sunday at King University's Tornado Open in Bristol, Tenn.
