Rio women win one of four at JCU Duals

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande women's wrestling team earned one win among its four outings in Sunday's John Carroll University Duals at the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.
The RedStorm fell to Mount Union (29-15), D'Youville (N.Y.) University (26-13) and Hiram College (25-19) before rebounding with a 21-18 triumph over Otterbein University.
Freshman Haley Williams (Mason, OH) had the most productive day for Rio Grande with three wins at 117 pounds. She defeated Mount Union's Aubrey Filsinger by fall at 1:30, posted a 4-2 decision over D'Youville's Rebecca Ridling and earned an 11-0 win by technical fall against Hiram's Autumn Shoff.
Freshmen Gabriela Flores-Bonilla (Indianapolis, IN) and Jessica Edwards (Harrison, OH) also had three wins on the day, at 124 pounds and 207 pounds, respectively, including one forfeit win each.
Flores-Bonilla pinned Mount Union's Iliana Men-Hartley at 0:32 and defeated Otterbein's Emily Caton by fall at 0:55, while winning by forfeit in her scheduled match against Hiram.
Edwards defeated Mackenzie Laforest of D'Youville by fall at 1:31 and topped Otterbein's Marvet Hejazin by fall at 1:18, while also getting a forfeit win against Hiram.
Redshirt freshman Dulce Lopez (Postville, IA) picked up forfeit wins at 110 pounds against Mount Union and D'Youville, while frehman Annalis Ortez-Pierce (Portland, OR) also had two victories - by injury over Hiram's Jaelyn Collins just two seconds into their 138-pound match and by forfeit against Otterbein at 131 pounds.
Rio's only other win on the day was by sophomore Kara Bebout (Mechanicsburg, OH), who got a forfeit victory at 145 pounds against Otterbein.
The RedStorm is scheduled to return to action Dec. 6-7 at the Patriot Duals hosted by the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky.
