Trailblazers outlast Rio in five sets

Rio Grande Sports Information
CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio - Just when it appeared as if the University of Rio Grande volleyball team was poised to record a third straight win overall and a second consecutive River States Conference triumph, the wheels fell off the RedStorm's wagon.
Host Ohio Christian University roared back from a 2-1 deficit to post a 3-2 victory over the RedStorm, Friday night, at the Maxwell Center.
The Trailblazers stopped their four-match losing slide with a 26-24, 23-25, 19-25, 25-18, 15-5 win - just their second in 10 outings this season and their first in three league matches.
Rio Grande dropped to 5-12 overall and 1-3 in the RSC with the loss, denying head coach Billina Donaldson's team the chance to surpass its season win total from a year ago.

The two-hour-plus marathon featured a combined 358 attacks and 214 digs.
Freshman Ashley Taylor (Chillicothe, OH) had 13 kills to lead Rio Grande, while sophomore Macy Roell (Farmersville, OH) finished with 17 assists and 15 digs and Ryanne Stoffel (Englewood, OH) recorded 12 assists and as many digs.
Junior Katie Hemsley (Jackson, OH) and sophomore Carly Shriver (Gallipolis, OH) topped the RedStorm in a losing cause with 21 digs apiece. Shriver and Stoffel also had two aces each and freshman Rachel Collins (Chillicothe, OH) had three block assists.
Ohio Christian, which won despite 18 service errors in the match, was led by Katie Bush, who had a team-high 25 assists to go along with 22 digs and 10 kills.
Karee Neff had a team-best 23 digs and four blocks to back up 11 kills, while Kiara Rohrer had 16 kills and 16 digs for the Trailblazers.
OCU also received 13 digs and 10 kills from Brooke Mazzocca, 21 assists from Autumn Paugh and 14 digs from Nicole Cooley in the winning effort.
Rio closes out its weekend road swing on Saturday at Indiana University East.
First serve is set for noon at Lingle Court in Richmond, Ind.
