Montgomery leads busy weekend on track for Rio women

RIO GRANDE, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande women's track and field team produced a handful of Top 10 finishes over the weekend while competing at three different sites.
At the Dennis Craddock Classic hosted by NCAA Division III Lynchburg University in Lynchburg, Va., freshman Kylie Montgomery (Coal Grove, OH) had a trio of top five outings.
She finished as the runner-up in the 100-meter dash (12.35), while placing third in the 400 (58.31) and fifth in the 200 (25.65).
In the same meet, senior Kendra Grooms (West Union, OH) was third in the high jump with an effort of 1.50m, freshman Makayla Bryant (Gallipolis, OH) took eighth place in the triple jump at 10.56m and freshman Rebecca Cadle (Bidwell, OH) was ninth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.52.
Junior Amarissa Kerns (Lancaster, OH) finished fifth in the 10,000-meter run at the Lee University Fast Break Invitational in Cleveland, Tenn., posting a personal-best time of 36:36.88. She also hit the "B" qualifying standard for the upcoming NAIA Championships.
At the Gordon Bocock Invitational hosted by the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky., redshirt junior Grace Forrest (Woodstock, OH) improved her school record in the 5,000-meter race walk by fourth in a time of 25:32.86.
In the same race, sophomore Rebecca Spohn (New Concord, OH) was ninth in a time of 28:49.74.
Rio Grande will return to action on April 25 and 26 when it hosts the River States Conference Championships at the Stockmeister Track and Field.
