RedStorm women notch two wins at Golden Eagle Invitational

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The University of Rio Grande women's track and field team recorded two individual first-place finishes and a pair of runner-up showings on its way to a third-place finish as a team in Friday's Golden Eagle Invitational, hosted by the University of Charleston, at UC Stadium/Laidley Field.
Junior Amarissa Kerns (Lancaster, OH) won the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:50.56, while freshman Kylie Montgomery (Coal Grove, OH) took top honors in the 200-meter dash after crossing in a time of 25.43.
Montgomery also was the runner-up in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.50, while freshman Stella Gilcher (Amesville, OH) finished second in the pole vault after clearing 2.75m.
Host University of Charleston won the team title with 298 points, with Glenville (WV) State in second with 145 points and Rio Grande third at 71 points.
Rio Grande tallied 17 additional individual performances during the meet.
The list of remaining superlatives also included graduate senior Mackenzie McCarthy (Akron, OH), who was third in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:04.60 and seventh in the 800-meter run after finishing in 2:29.10; freshman Makayla Bryant (Gallipolis, OH), who took third place in both the long jump and triple jump with efforts of 4.65m and 10.34m, respectively; redshirt junior Grace Forrest (Woodstock, OH), who was fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 20:29.65; senior Chianti Marks (Birmingham, England), who was fifth in the triple jump with an effort covering 9.36m and seventh in the long jump at 3.95m; senior Jayden Roach (Baltimore, OH), who was fifth in the 800 after reaching the finish line in 2:25.15 and eight in the 200 with a time of 27.93; senior Kendra Grooms (West Union, OH), who was sixth in the 800 with a time of 2:27.10 and seventh in the 200 with a mark of 27.75; Gilcher, who placed sixth in the long jump (4.17m) and eighth in the 100 (15.02); Kylie Gilmore (Ironton, OH), who finished eighth in the 1,500 with a time of 5:46.32; freshman Tiffany Porter (Millersport, OH), who was eighth in the long jump with an effort covering 3.93m; and sophomore Rebecca Spohn (New Concord, OH), who was ninth in the 1,500 (6:05.13) and 10th in the 800 (2:46.82).
Rio Grande is scheduled to be back in action at three different venues this weekend.
Racewalkers will be at the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky. on Friday at 4:30 p.m., while the bulk of the team will be at the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic in Lynchburg, Va. on Friday and Saturday.
Others will be at the Lee University Invite in Cleveland, Tenn. on Friday and Saturday.
