Hamm, Forrest enjoy big days for Rio women

     PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Laura Hamm posted a second place finish in the 800-meter run to headline the University of Rio Grande women's track and field team's showing in the Carnegie Mellon Invitational, which wrapped up on Saturday at Gesling Stadium.
     Hamm, a sophomore from South Point, Ohio, recorded a time of 2:16.97.
     She was also a member of the RedStorm's 4x400 team - along with senior Jayden Roach (Baltimore, OH), senior Kendra Grooms (West Union, OH) and freshman Kylie Montgomery (Coal Grove, OH) - which finished fifth in a time of 4:01.89.
     Montgomery had Rio's only other Top 10 finish, taking fourth place in the 400-meter run with a time of 59.06.
     The meet was not team scored.
     The RedStorm also had a pair of race walkers at the Indiana University East Race Walking Event in Richmond, Ind.
     Redshirt junior Grace Forrest (Woodstock, OH) won the event and hit the "B" qualifying standard by crossing in 29:04.50, while sophomore Rebecca Spohn (New Concord, OH) also hit the "B" qualifying mark by placing fifth in a time of 30:02.40.
     Forrest had previously hit the national "A" mark.
     Forrest and Spohn helped the RedStorm to a second place finish behind Indiana East. IU Kokomo was third.
     Rio Grande will have its team at two different events this week.
     Some will compete at the University of Charleston Invitational at UC Stadium/Laidley Field in Charleston, W.Va. on Friday, while others will participate at the University of Cincinnati's Oliver Nickoloff Invitational on both Friday and Saturday.
