RedStorm women finish sixth at Golden Eagle Invite

RIO GRANDE, Ohio - Chanee Cremeens had a trio of Top 10 performances, while Chianti Marks recorded two of her own and Kendra Grooms added a runner-up finish to lead the University of Rio Grande women's track and field team at the University of Charleston Golden Eagle Invitational.
The meet took place on Friday at UC Stadium/Laidley Field in Charleston, W.Va.
Cremeens, a freshman from Gallipolis, Ohio, was fifth in the discus with a toss of 35.78m, while finishing sixth in both the shot put (10.61m) and hammer throw (116"6").
Marks, a junior from Birmingham, England, placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 9.59m and also finished seventh in the long jump at 4.27m.
Grooms, a junior from West Union, Ohio was the runner-up in the 400-meter un with a time of 1:02.37.
As a team, Rio Grande tallied 42 points and finished sixth among 10 participating schools.
Host University of Charleston took the team title with 176 points, while West Liberty University was second with 105 points. Central State rounded out the top three with 88 points.
Rio Grande had six other Top 10 performances in the meet.
The group included junior Jayden Roach (Baltimore, OH), who was third in the 400-meter with a time of 1:02.78; sophomore Paris DeBord (Chillicothe, OH), who was fifth in the 100-meter dash after crossing in 12.63 seconds; freshman Emily Duncan (Chesapeake, OH), who placed fifth in the high jump with an effort of 1.50m; redshirt sophomore Grace Forrest (Woodstock, OH), who was sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:41.02; sophomore Megan Diven (Marion, OH), who finished ninth in the shot put with a toss covering 9.99m; and sophomore Karley Kouns (Wheelersburg, OH), who was 10th in the shot put after an effort of 9.86m.
The RedStorm also had a pair of runners who took part in the 10,000-meter run at Lee University's Fast Break Athletics Invitational in Cleveland, Tenn.
Senior Mackenzie McCarthy (New Franklin, OH) was 18th with a time of 38:44.53, while sophomore teammate Amarissa Kerns (Lancaster, OH) finished right behind her in 19th place at 38:58.36.
Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action this weekend at a pair of events.
A portion of the team will be at Ball State University's We Fly Track & Field Challenge in Muncie, Ind. on both Friday and Saturday.
Others will participate in Ohio University's Cherry Blossom Invitational on Friday in Athens, Ohio.
