Rio women fall victim to weather at Otterbein
Rio Grande Sports Information
WESTERVILLE, Ohio - Turns out, the final tuneup for the University of Rio Grande women's track & field team before the River States Conference Championship ended up being much ado about nothing.
The RedStorm's trip to Saturday's Otterbein Twilight, hosted by Otterbein University at Memorial Stadium, was short-circuited by numerous weather delays.
While most of the field events and the preliminary round of the track contests were completed before the delays began, the meet didn't conclude until well after midnight.
The issue for Rio Grande, though, during one of the delays was that word spread that the meet was going to be called due to the inclement weather.
The RedStorm then got the jump on the return trip home only to find out that the event did, in fact, resume and conclude in the wee hours of the morning.
In the action that did take place before Rio's departure, the RedStorm's lone Top 10 showing came from freshman Megan Diven (Caledonia, OH), who finished seventh in the shot put with a heave of 11.12m.
Diven's outing gave Rio's its two points in the team scoring and a 17th place finish among the 18 competing schools.
Cedarville University won the team title with 129.25 points, while Ohio Wesleyan University (115 pts.) and host Otterbein (63.25 pts.) rounded out the top three.
The RSC Championship is scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the Stockmeister Track and Field on the Rio Grande campus.
Action begins Friday at 1 p.m.
