RedStorm women place 4th at Cedarville

     CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Lauren Jolly had a trio of Top 5 finishes, while Alyssa Dingus had two scoring performances of her own to lead the University of Rio Grande women's track & field team to a fourth place finish at Saturday's Cedarville Collegiate Indoor Invite at the Doden Fieldhouse.
     Jolly, a sophomore from Wheelersburg, Ohio, finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 16-00.50, while placing fifth in both the 200-meter dash (27.56) and the 60-meter hurdles (10.08).
     Dingus, a junior from Wheelersburg, Ohio, took third place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.74 and was eighth in the 200-meter dash after crossing in 27.81.
     The duo helped the RedStorm tally 48 points and finish fourth among the 13 participating teams.
     Host Cedarville University won the team championship with 242 points, while Wittenberg University was a distant second with 84.5 points. Georgetown (Ky.) College took third place with 52 points.
     Rio Grande had six other individual outings which produced points, as well as one relay unit that added to the team total.
     Sophomore Kendra Grooms (West Union, OH) and freshman Karley Kouns (Wheelersburg, OH) led the group, finishing third in their respective events. Grooms was third in the high jump with an effort of 5-01.75, while Kouns was third in the shot put with a heave of 35-08.00.
     The remainder of the scoring performances came from senior Beth Arnold (Williamstown, WV), who took fifth place in the Shot Put with a toss of 33-03.00; freshman Amarissa Kerns (Lancaster, OH), who was sixth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:48.20; sophomore Jayden Roach (Baltimore, OH), who placed seventh in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.81; and freshman Megan Diven (Caledonia, OH), who was eighth in the Shot Put with a heave covering 33-00.50.
Rio's 4x200 relay squad - comprised of sophomore Cassidy Vogt (North Robinson, OH), Grooms, freshman Paris Debord (Chillicothe, OH) and freshman Karlee Renner (Chillicothe, OH) - finished third after crossing the finish line in 1:52.23.
     Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action next Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Mount St. Joseph Invitational in Cincinnati. Action is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.
