Rio women set to open NAIA Championship

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Three individuals and one relay team will represent the University of Rio Grande in the 46th Annual NAIA Women's Indoor Track & Field National Championship at the Alachua County Sports & Events Center at Celebration Pointe.
The meet begins on Thursday and will run through Saturday.
Thursday's action will include the Distance Medley Relay preliminaries at 4:45 p.m. Rio's entry in the race will come from a group that includes junior Laura Hamm (South Point, OH), senior Amarissa Kerns (Lancaster, OH), freshman Marley Kreischer (Oak Hill, OH), graduate senior Mackenzie McCarthy (Akron, OH), junior Becca Spohn (New Concord, OH), sophomore Kylie Montgomery (Coal Grove, OH), freshman Brandy Shular (Winchester, OH) and freshman Joleigh Nott (Gallipolis Ferry, WV).
The RedStorm have the 17th-best qualifying time of 12:21.86.
On Friday, Hamm will participate in the preliminaries of the one mile run at 11:45 a.m. The final is set for Saturday at 12:25 p.m.
Hamm's qualifying time of 5:09.48 was the 34th fastest of the 50 qualifiers.
Also on Friday, Spohn will be in the 3,000-meter race walk final at 10:45 a.m. She qualified with the fifth-quickest time of 16:06.07.
Saturday's schedule includes the 5,000-meter run, in which Kerns will be a participant, at 3:55 p.m.
Kerns' time of 17:29.25 is the ninth-fastest among the 50 qualifiers in the event.
