Rio sends four to NAIA Women's Indoor Nationals

RIO GRANDE, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande will be represented by four student-athletes at the 2025 U.S. Marines NAIA Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship hosted by the Gainesville Sports Commission, which is scheduled for Thursday-Saturday, at the Alachua County Sports and Events Center at Celebration Pointe in Gainesville, Fla.
The RedStorm's representatives include redshirt junior Grace Forrest (Woodstock, OH) and sophomore Rebecca Spohn (New Concord, OH) in the 3,000-meter Race Walk, junior Amarissa Kerns (Lancaster, OH) in the 5,000-meter run and sophomore Laura Hamm (South Point, OH) in the 800-meter run.
Forrest posted the fourth-best qualifying time in the event with a mark of 14:41.26, while Spohn had the 17th-fastest time of 17:44.34.
The preliminaries are scheduled for Thursday, at 10:45 a.m., with the top four finishers from each of the two heats - plus the next four fastest times - advancing to Friday's final at 10:45 a.m.
Hamm had the 11th-best qualifying time in her event at 2:17.24.
The preliminaries in the 800 are scheduled for Friday, at 3:15 p.m., with the finals set for Saturday at 2:20 p.m. The top two times in each of the three preliminary heats, plus the next two fastest marks will make the finals.
Kerns' qualifying time in the 5,000 was the 19th-fastest nationally.
The prelims in the event are slated for Thursday at 1:15 p.m., with the finals - featuring the top four finishers from each of two heats, plus the next four quickest times - set for Saturday at 3:55 p.m.
