Rio women set trio of records at YSU

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande women's indoor track and field team established a trio of new school records and three other personal-best marks at Friday afternoon's YSU Collegiate Invitational presented by Southwoods Health at the Watson and Tressel Training Site.
Individually, freshman Makayla Bryant (Gallipolis, OH) finished fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 10.57m - a mark which bettered Kristy Lindsey's previous school record of 10.49m set 32 years ago.
Sophomore Laura Hamm (South Point, OH) set a new school record in the 800-meter run by finishing sixth with a time of 2:20.11 in her first-ever try in the event. Her time topped the previous mark of 2:20.64 set by Anne Marie Hynes, while also serving as the ninth-best time in the NAIA this season.
Rio's 4x400 relay team - comprised of freshman Kylie Montgomery (Coal Grove, OH), senior Kendra Grooms (West Union, OH), senior Jayden Roach (Baltimore, OH) and Hamm - took third place in a time of 4:04.68, topping the previous school record by nearly five full seconds.
The RedStorm had three other Top 10 performances, including freshman Rebecca Cadle (Bidwell, OH), who was fourth in the pole vault in a personal-best mark of 3.40m; freshman Stella Gilcher (Amesville, OH), who was sixth in the pole vault at 2.65m; and another entry in the 4x400 relay - composed of junior Paris DeBoard (Chillicothe, OH), sophomore Emily Duncan (Chesapeake, OH), Cadle and junior Amarissa Kerns (Lancaster, OH) - which finished fifth in a time of 4:30.72.
Other personal-best marks from Rio athletes included Montgomery, who finished 13th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.94; Kerns, who was 19th in the mile run after crossing in 5:25.93; and Cadle, who was 19th in the 60-meter hurdles with a mark of 10.55 in the preliminary round.
Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action next Saturday at the Louisville Classic in Louisville, Ky.
