RIO GRANDE, Ohio - Preventing the opposition from getting off a shot doesn't happen all that often in collegiate soccer.
But for the University of Rio Grande women, it's all of a sudden becoming a normality.
For the second time in three outings, the RedStorm played keep away on defense and the end result was a 2-0 win over Midway University, Saturday afternoon, in River States Conference play at Evan E. Davis Field.
Head coach Brooke Perkins' team won for a third straight time, improving to 6-3-5 overall and 4-1-1 in the RSC.
The visiting Eagles slipped to 4-7-1 overall and 2-5 in league play.
Rio Grande outshot Midway, 30-0, overall and, 13-0, in shots on goal, just days after outshooting Indiana University Columbus, 25-0.
In the middle game of the winning streak, the RedStorm allowed just four shots by West Virginia University-Tech and has surrendered just five shots or less to the opposition five times this season.
Rio Grande also was responsible for 10 of the 11 corner kick chances in the match, but scored both of its goals on penalty kick opportunities.
The first goal came with just 4:16 left in the opening half on a PK by senior Jitske De Muijnk (Nijmegen, The Netherlands).
The second marker - by senior Saskia Vos (Sydney, Australia) - came on a penalty shot with 14:57 left in the contest.
Senior Alba Vilades Marin (Barcelona, Spain) got the uneventful win in goal for the RedStorm.
Lilly Riordan recorded 11 saves in a losing cause for Midway.
Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action at RSC rival Shawnee State University on Thursday at 5 p.m.
