RedStorm open league play with tie
Rio Grande Sports Information
RIO GRANDE, Ohio - For the second consecutive outing, the University of Rio Grande dominated its opponent.
And for the second consecutive outing, the RedStorm failed to come away with the result that they desired.
Head coach Brooke Perkins' squad had more than three times as many shots as their foes and didn't allow a shot on goal, but the inability to cash in on offensive opportunities resulted in a scoreless draw with Indiana University Kokomo, Saturday night, in River States Conference women's soccer action at Evan E. Davis Field.
Rio Grande moved to 2-2-5 overall and 0-0-1 in league play as a result of the tie.
The Cougars, who've defeated the RedStorm in two of the last three conference tournament title games, finished the night at 4-3-3 overall and 1-0-1 in the RSC.
Rio Grande, which outshot the University of Cincinnati-Clermont, 24-7, in a 2-0 loss on Wednesday night, enjoyed a 23-7 advantage in overall shots and an 8-0 edge in shots on frame against IUK.
The RedStorm also had all but one of the six corner kick chances in the contest.
Kokomo net-minder Kailee Moore had eight saves in the deadlock.
Senior Alba Vilades Marin (Barcelona, Spain) failed to face a shot in goal for Rio Grande.
Rio returns to action on Thursday when it opens a two-game weekend road trip at St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in RSC action.
Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
