Rio dominates everything but scoreboard in loss to Cougars

Rio Grande Sports Information
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - All of the numbers indicated a night of success for the University of Rio Grande women's soccer team.
All of the numbers, that is, except for those on the scoreboard determining who won and who lost.
The University of Cincinnati-Clermont made the most of their scant scoring opportunities, netting goals in the early moments of each half and knocking off the RedStorm, 2-0, in non-conference play at Northern Kentucky University's Scudamore Field.
The host Cougars, a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), improved to 4-5-1 with the victory. Two of their wins and the one tie have now come against foes from the NAIA River States Conference.
Rio Grande dropped to 2-2-3 as a result of the loss.
The RedStorm controlled the game in nearly every aspect, except on the scoreboard.
Rio outshot UCC, 24-7, including 11-6 in shots on frame. Head coach Brooke Perkins' team also had eight of the 11 corner kick chances in the contest.
The RedStorm were also whistled for just three of the 14 fouls in the contest.
But the Cougars made their chances count, getting their first goal from Kaylee Rose off of a pass into the left side of the 18-yard box from Molly Ennis just under 9-1/2 minutes into the match.
UCC's second tally came with 38:08 left to play when Laney Murphy punched a deflection off the hands of Rio senior net-minder Alba Vilades Marin (Barcelona, Spain) into the net.
The RedStorm had five of their shots on frame after the second Cougar score, but UCC keeper stopped each attempt on her way to an 11-save night.
Vilades Marin was credited with three saves for Rio Grande.
The RedStorm are back in action on Saturday night, hosting Indiana University Kokomo in their first RSC contest of the season at Evan E. Davis Field.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
