RedStorm, MVNU finish in scoreless tie
Rio Grande Sports Information
RIO GRANDE, Ohio - You'd be hard-pressed to find any athletic team that plays for a tie, but if the deadlock comes against an opponent that you've never beaten before - and against a foe which has won five and tied one of its first seven outings - it becomes a tad more palatable.
The University of Rio Grande turned in a strong defensive performance and played visiting Mount Vernon Nazarene University to a scoreless draw, Wednesday night, in non-conference women's soccer action at Evan E. Davis Field.
The RedStorm, whose only win against the Cougars all-time was a retroactive forfeit victory in 2013 after MVNU was ruled to have used an ineligible player, moved to 2-1-4 for the season.
Mount Vernon Nazarene finished the day at 5-1-2.
The Cougars controlled possession for much of the night and finished with an 11-3 advantage in overall shots and a 7-0 edge in shots on goal.
MVNU also had a 5-4 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
Senior Alba Vilades Marin (Barcelona, Spain) stopped all seven Mount Vernon Nazarene shots on frame.
Hannah Miller went the distance in net for the visitors.
Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action next Wednesday when it faces the University of Cincinnati-Clermont at Northern Kentucky University's NKU Soccer Stadium in Highland Heights, Ky.
Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
