RIO GRANDE, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande may have dominated time of possession and doubled up the number of shots against Georgetown College, but when all was said and done the scoreboard showed match that was dead even.
The RedStorm rallied from an early deficit, but surrendered a goal midway through the second half which allowed the visiting Tigers to forge a 2-2 tie, Wednesday night, in non-conference women's soccer action at Evan E. Davis Field.
Rio Grande finished the night at 1-1-3 with the draw.
The deadlock left Georgetown at 3-2-1.
The Tigers had just six total shots in the contest and only two shots on frame, both of which found their way into the back of the net.
Rio Grande had 13 total shots, but only three were on goal and two of those three resulted in goals.
Georgetown took a 1-0 lead just 10:16 into the match when Cadence Flamm lofted a shot from roughly 35 yards out over the head of Rio senior keeper Alba Vilades Marin (Barcelona, Spain) and into the goal.
The RedStorm countered with a long-range bomb of their own just under 3-1/2 minutes later, getting the equalizer from well outside the 18-yard box on the right wing by freshman Lexi Boyd (Ashland, KY).
Senior Saskia Vos (Sydney, Australia) gave Rio the lead with 22:11 left before the intermission with a straightaway boot from 25 yards out that cleared the head of Georgetown keeper Olivia York.
The RedStorm maintained the advantage until the Tigers knotted the score at 2-2 when Mallary Bailey spun away from a Rio defender in the middle of the field and lofted a shot from around 35 yards out which eluded Vilades Marin with 22:58 remaining.
Neither team managed a shot on frame the rest of the way.
York stopped one shot for Georgetown.
Vilades Marin was not credited with a save for Rio Grande in the deadlock.
Rio Grande is slated to return to action on Saturday when it hosts Bluefield (WV) State University for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
