RIO GRANDE, Ohio - After getting its season off to a perfect start, including a shutout road win at No. 4 Columbia (Mo.) last Saturday, the Grace (Ind.) College women's soccer team felt it deserved a spot in the NAIA Top 25.
When that didn't happen on Wednesday afternoon, the Lancers decided to exercise their frustrations on the University of Rio Grande.
Nora Pollock had three goals and two assists, while Zoe Mueller had two goals of her own and Audrey Abel tallied three assists in a 9-0 rout of the RedStorm in non-conference action at Evan E. Davis Field.
Grace, which did receive enough votes for the equivalent of 27th place in the coaches' poll, improved to 5-0 with the victory.
Rio Grande dropped to 1-1-2 as a result of the loss.
Pollock had all three of her goals in the first half as the Lancers scored on five of their eight shots before the intermission.
Rosalie Gefrorer and Cassidy Felger also netted goals in the first half for the visitors, while Abel had assists on Felger's goal and the final score by Pollock.
Just under 90 seconds into the second half, the match was delayed for 44 minutes due to lightning in the area.
The halt of play did little to deter the visitors.
Just under four minutes after play resumed, Abel assisted on a goal by Mueller and - just 2-1/2 minutes after that - an unassisted marker by Ellie Grieser gave Grace a 7-0 lead.
Pollock assisted on each of the Lancers' final two goals - by Joya Lienammer with 27:36 left and by Mueller just under four minutes later.
Grace finished with a 20-1 advantage in shots overall and a 14-0 cushion in shots on frame.
The Lancers also had all seven corner kick opportunities in the game.
Ivy Cline picked up the win in goal for Grace.
Senior Alba Vilades Marin (Barcelona, Spain) had four saves in a losing cause for Rio.
The RedStorm return to action next Wednesday when they host Georgetown (Ky.) College for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
