COLUMBIA, S.C. - The University of Rio Grande women's soccer team closed out a holiday weekend trip to the Carolinas on Sunday afternoon with a scoreless draw against Columbia College at Younts Stadium.
The tie left the RedStorm at 1-0-2 on the season.
The host Koalas finished the day at 1-0-1.
Columbia enjoyed an 11-9 edge in shots overall and an 8-5 advantage in shots on frame.
Rio Grande's best chance at scoring came with just over 19 minutes left to play when junior Morgan Fannin (Circleville, OH) slipped past CC goalie Teagan Eisenring, but her shot ricocheted off the post.
The Koalas also had a pair of scoring chances in the second half, but were turned away thanks to dazzling stops by RedStorm senior keeper Alva Vilades Marin (Barcelona, Spain).
Eisenring had five saves for Columbia, which also was responsible for five of the game's six corner kick opportunities.
Vilades Marin had eight saves en route to a clean sheet for Rio.
Rio Grande returns to action on Wednesday afternoon when it hosts Grace (Ind.) College for a 4 p.m. kickoff at Evan E. Davis Field.
The Lancers are coming off a 4-0 rout of fourth-ranked Columbia (Mo.) on Saturday.
