PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Holly Pascoe scored two goals and assisted on another, while Athena Beck had two goals of her own to lead Point Park University in a 5-0 win over the University of Rio Grande, Saturday afternoon, in River States Conference women's soccer action at Highmark Stadium.
The host Pioneers upped their record to 8-6-1 overall and 7-0-1 inside the RSC.
Rio Grande dropped to 3-9-3 overall and 3-3-2 in league play, including an 0-2-1 mark in its last three outings.
Point Park scored what proved to be the only goal it would need just over 17-1/2 minutes into the contest when Chanell Britten found the back of the net off of a dual touch by Pascoe and Elisa Ferrer.
Pascoe's first goal - a finish on the far post off of a corner kick by Mireya Rojas - with 13:09 left in the first half gave the Pioneers a 2-0 cushion at the break and her second score - via a thru ball by Ferrer - pushed the lead to 3-0 with 27:24 remaining in the contest.
Beck scored the final two goals of the match - the first on a penalty kick with 22:08 left and the second on an unassisted marker from 30 yards out a little more than five minutes later - to set the final tally.
Point Park enjoyed a 14-8 edge in total shots and a 10-6 advantage in shots on frame, while also owning four of the game's five corner kick situations.
Ella Serlin earned the win in goal for PPU, stopping six shots in the process.
Freshman Aina Lopez (Barcelona, Spain) had five saves in the loss for Rio Grande.
Rio Grande is slated to return to action on Thursday night when it hosts St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in a 5 p.m. kick at Evan E. Davis Field.
