Rio women close season in RSC Championship

     DANIELS, W.Va. - The University of Rio Grande finished in eighth place following Tuesday's final round of action in the River States Conference Women's Golf Championship at The Resort at Glade Springs.
     The RedStorm completed the 54-hole event at 270-over par 1,134, nine shots behind Shawnee State University in the eight-team field.
     Midway University cruised to the team championship, topping runner-up Indiana University East by 20 shots after trailing the Red Wolves by 10 strokes at the conclusion of Sunday's first round.
     The Eagles finished at 88-over par 952, while IU East totaled a 108-over 972 and St. Mary-of-the-Woods College was third at 144-over 1,008.
     Midway will be the River States Conference's representative in the 2026 NAIA Women's Golf National Championship, beginning May 19 at Eagle Crest Golf Club in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
     Individually, Midway's Savannah Salchii took medalist honors with a four-shot win over teammate Kasey Cameron. Salchii carded a 16-over par total of 232 for the tourney.
     Rio Grande was led by freshman Lindsey Martin (Lawrenceburg, KY), who finished in 24th place at 49-over par 265.
     Rounding out the field for the RedStorm was junior Maddi Meadows (Gallipolis, OH), who tied for 28th place at 56-over 272; sophomore Kimmi Aubrey (Wellston, OH), who was 36th at 81-over par 297; freshman Julia Hancock (Martins Ferry, OH), who placed 37th with an 88-over 304; and senior Natalie Shriner (Thornville, OH), who was 38th at 94-over par 310.
     Cameron won RSC Golfer of the Year honors for the second season in a row, while Midway's Otis Smith was honored as the RSC Coach of the Year and IU Southeast freshman Emma Rowland was honored as league Newcomer of the Year.
     Additionally, the RSC also announced the athletes recognized as their program's Champion of Character.
     Each team in each River States Conference sponsored sport is asked to nominate one athlete as their Champion of Character. These student-athletes best represent the NAIA's Champions of Character program and its five core values of Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Servant Leadership and Sportsmanship.
     Shriner was Rio Grande's representative on the list.
