Rio Grande 8th after first round of RSC Championship

     DANIELS, W.Va. - The University of Rio Grande finds itself in eighth place following Sunday's opening round of the River States Conference Women's Golf Championship on the Cobb Course at The Resort at Glade Springs.
     The RedStorm carded an 91-over par score of 379, which was 4 shots behind rival Shawnee State University in the eight-team field.
     Indiana University East holds a 10-shot lead over Midway University for the top spot in the team standings. The Red Wolves finished the day at 26-over 314. St. Mary-of-the-Woods College is third at 40-over 328.
     Individually, IU East's Sophia Curry finished with the early lead after carding a 4-over par 76. She leads both Savannah Salchii from Midway and IU Kokomo's Chloe McFaddin by two strokes.
     Rio Grande's top individual score came from freshman Lindsey Martin (Lawrenceburg, KY), who carded a 17-over par round of 89.
     Also representing the RedStorm was junior Maddi Meadows (Gallipolis, OH) at 21-over 93; sophomore Kimmi Aubrey (Wellston, OH) at 26-over par 98; freshman Julia Hancock (Martins Ferry, OH) at 27-over 99; and senior Natalie Shriner (Thornville, OH) at 32-over 104.
     Round two is set for a 10 a.m. start on Monday.
