Lemaster headlines Rio women at Hoosier Classic

     INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Julie Lemaster and Hannah Halstead both gave the University of Rio Grande women's bowling team a Top 100 finish at the 57th Annual Columbia 300 Hoosier Classic, which wrapped up Sunday at Royal Pin Western.
     LeMaster, a junior from Chillicothe, Ohio, finished in 92nd place after taking down 937 pins in five rounds for a 187.4 average.
     Halstead, a senior from Delaware, Ohio placed 99th with 923 pins in five games. She also had the top single-game performance among those in the Rio Grande contingent with a 245 in round two.
     The three-day event, which included five rounds of team play and 15 baker rounds before becoming a match play format, attracted 64 teams and more than 400 bowlers.
     As a team, Rio Grande finished in 40th place. The RedStorm toppled 4,391 pins in team play and 2,392 pins in the baker rounds for a tournament total of 6,783 pins.
     The University of Pikeville (7,994 pins) edged out Mount Mercy University (7,932) for the team championship, while Milligan University was third with 7,906 pins.
     Individually, Brooke Binder from Aquinas (Mich.) College took medalist honors in a field where the top five finishers were separated by just 18 pins.
     Binder finished with 1,124 pins and a 224.8 average.
     Joining LeMaster and Halstead in representing the RedStorm was junior Payton Goodman (Cardington, OH), who was 101st with 922 pins in five rounds; sophomore Lina Fernandez (Mechanicsburg, PA), who took 115th place with 904 pins in five games; junior Jaelyn Hughes (Indian Lakes, OH), who was 320th with 428 pins in three games; and senior Megan Foltz (South Point, OH), who was 377th with 277 pins over her two rounds.
