Rio women 10th at Bowlero South

MARIETTA, Ga. - The University of Rio Grande women's bowling team posted a 10th-place finish in the 14-team field at the Bowlero South Collegiate Classic, which wrapped up its two-day run on Sunday.
The RedStorm, who were also in 10th place at the close of Saturday's opening round, knocked down 6,899 pins over five rounds of team play and 16 baker games.
The University of Pikeville took the team championship with 8,004 pins, while Milligan University was a distant runner-up at 7,535 pins. Savannah College of Art and Design - Savannah was third with 7,493 pins.
Individually, Pikeville's Kaytlen Peck and the University of Alabama Birmingham tied for medalist honors with 1,054 pins each.
Rio Grande's top finish came from junior Payton Goodman (Cardington, OH), who was 30th in the field of 99 competitors with 886 pins over five rounds for an average of 177.2. She was also responsible for the team's single-game high with a 206 in round four.
Also representing the RedStorm was junior Jaelyn Hughes (Indian Lake, OH), who was 33rd with 870 pins in five games; sophomore Lina Fernandez (Mechanicsburg, PA), who placed 37th with 836 pins over five rounds; Julie Lemster (Chillicothe, OH), who finished 38th with 835 pins in five games; sophomore Melanie Liming (Georgetown, OH), who was 82nd with 356 pins over three games; and senior Megan Foltz (South Point, OH), who took 90th place with 291 pins over two games.
Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action on Nov. 15 at the Ohio Bowling Conference Tournament No. 2 in Columbus, Ohio.
