RedStorm women 31st at Hoosier Classic

     INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The University of Rio Grande women's bowling team wrapped up its regular season schedule with a 31st place finish in the Columbia 300 Hoosier Classic, which concluded its two-day run on Sunday at Royal Pin Western.
     The prestigious tournament was comprised of five team games and 15 rounds of baker games.
     The RedStorm toppled a total of 7,265 pins during the event - 4,510 in the team play portion and another 2,755 in baker action.
     The team championship went to Savannah College of Art and Design - Savannah with 8,344 pins, edging Calumet College of St. Joseph by 12 pins. Milligan (Tenn.) University was third with 8,315 pins.
     Calumet's Piper Plautz took medalist honors individually with 1,198 pins - 38 more than Yumi Yuzuriha of SCAD - Savannah.
     Rio Grande's best finish among the 409 participants came from junior Hannah Halstead (Delaware, OH), who was 34th with 1,017 pins in five games and a 203.4 average.
     Others representing the RedStorm were senior Caity Moody (Xenia, OH), who was 90th with 950 pins in five games; sophomore Payton Goodman (Cardington, OH), who was 131st with 896 pins over five rounds; freshman Lina Fernandez (Mechanicsburg, PA), who placed 162nd with 849 pins in five rounds; and sophomore Julie Lemaster (Chillicothe, OH), who was 209th with 798 pins in five games.
     Moody had the team's single-game high with a 234 in round four.
     Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action at the ITC Sectionals March 7-9.
