Halstead, RedStorm finish 7th at RotoGrip Classic

     ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Hannah Halstead cracked the top 10 individually and led the University of Rio Grande women's bowling team to a seventh place finish in the Roto Grip Keystone Classic, which concluded its two-day run on Saturday at the Haja Rose Bowl.
     Halstead - a junior from Delaware, Ohio - toppled 962 pins over five games for a 192.4 average, which was good enough for seventh place in the field of 82 bowlers. She was also responsible for the RedStorm's single-game high with a 247 in her third game.
     As a team, Rio finished with 7,600 pins and tied Rochester (Mich.) University for seventh place among the 11 competing schools.
     The event consisted of five rounds of team play on Friday and 20 baker contests on Saturday.
     The University of Pikeville won the team crown with 8,575 pins, while Trine University (8,233) edged Cumberland, Tenn. (8,216) for second place.
     The top individual score went to Pikeville's Kristina Catoe, who knocked over 1,049 pins in five games for a 209.8 average. She edged teammate Brianna Rogers by 18 pins for medalist honors.
     Among the others who rolled for the RedStorm was sophomore Payton Goodman (Cardington, OH), who placed 14th with 884 pins over five games; freshman Lina Fernandez (Mechanicsburg, PA), who was 19th with 831 pins in five rounds; sophomore Julianna Lemaster (Chillicothe, OH), who took 20th place with 829 pins over five games; and senior Caity Moody (Xenia, OH), who was 30th with 727 pins in five rounds.
     Rio Grande is slated to return to action on Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Greater Pittsburgh Classic in Greensburg, Pa.
