Fernandez first, Moody third for Rio at OBC No. 3

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Lina Fernandez and Caitlyn Moody finished first and third, respectively, as individuals and earned All-Tournament honors in the process, leading the University of Rio Grande women to a third place finish in Saturday's Ohio Bowling Conference Tournament No. 3 at the Columbus Square Bowling Palace.
Fernandez, a freshman Mechanicsburg, Pa., took down 831 pins in four games and had Rio's single-game high of 256 in the second round.
Moody, a senior from Xenia, Ohio, finished with 789 pins over four rounds.
Rio also received an 11th place showing from junior Hannah Halstead (Delaware, OH), who had 749 pins over four games.
As a team, Rio toppled 5,194 pins to finish behind team champion Wright State University (5,391) and runner-up University of Northwestern Ohio (5,273).
Others representing the RedStorm included sophomore Julie Lemaster (Chillicothe, OH), who was 21st with 681 pins in four games; sophomore Payton Goodman (Cardington, OH), who was 64th with 421 pins in three rounds; and sophomore Jaelyn Hughes (Indian Lake, OH), who took 90th place with a 119 in her only game.
Rio Grande also fielded a team in the junior varsity division and finished fifth among the six entries with 3,745 pins.
Wright State University No. 2 won the JV team crown with 4,800 pins, while Wright State No. 1 was second (4,666) and Shawnee State (3,913) was third.
Freshman Melanie Liming (Georgetown, OH) had Rio's best individual finish among its reserves with 616 pins over four games for 10th place.
Others rolling for Rio were senior Kayla Sheets (Columbus, OH), who was 13th with 595 pins; senior Malerie Stanley (Gallipolis, OH), who was 13th with 565 pins; and junior Megan Foltz (South Point, OH), who was 21st with 561 pins.
Rio Grande returns to action on Friday and Saturday as part of a pair of NAIA Invitational Tournaments in Jeffersontown, Ky.
