Fernandez, Moody pace RedStorm women to 4th place finish

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Lina Fernandez and Caity Moody finished second and third, respectively, and led the University of Rio Grande women's bowling team to a fourth-place finish in Saturday's Ohio Bowling Conference No. 1 Tournament at the Columbus Square Bowling Palace.
Fernandez, a freshman from Mechanicsburg, Pa., finished with 783 pins over four rounds, including a single-game team-high 224 in game four, for an average of 195.8.
She finished 18 pins behind individual champion Tayler Clark of Muskingum University.
Moody, a senior from Xenia, Ohio finished third with 769 pins over four games.
Muskingum won the team crown with 4,965 pins, while St. Vincent (4,767) and Wright State University (4,738) completed the top three.
Rio Grande was fourth on the list with 4,695 pins over eight rounds of baker action and the four rounds of team play.
Also representing the RedStorm was sophomore Payton Goodman (Cardington, OH), who was 11th with 696 pins over four games; sophomore Jaelyn Hughes (Indian Lake, OH), who placed 34th with 636 pins in four rounds; and sophomore Julie Lemaster (Chillicothe, OH), who was 39th with 615 pins in four games.
Rio Grande also fielded a team in the six-team junior varsity bracket and finished sixth with 3,532 pins.
Ohio State University won the JV division with 4,233 pins, while St. Vincent (3,908) was second and the University of Northwestern Ohio (3,637) was third.
Muskingum's Hannah Cunningham took the individual crown with 722 pins over four games.
Rio's top outing among its junior varsity competitors belonged to junior Megan Foltz (South Point, OH), who finished 50th overall with 587 pins in four rounds for a 146.8 average. She also had the team's high game with a 209 in round four.
Also representing Rio was senior Malerie Stanley (Gallipolis, OH), who was 55th with 576 pins in four rounds; freshman Melanie Liming (Georgetown, OH), who placed 65th with 549 pins in four games; senior Emillee-Anne Ross (Wellston, OH), who was 102nd with 330 pins in three rounds; freshman Addison Jones (Winchester, OH), who placed 103rd with 329 pins in three games; and freshman Kendall Harrod (Chillicothe, OH), who was 122nd with 165 pins over two games.
Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action on Saturday and Sunday at the Columbia Western Shootout in Indianapolis, Ind.
