Moyer, Lopez lead Rio men at Grand View Open

     GRIMES, Iowa - Westyn Moyer and Zack Lopez posted three wins each, while Conner Blessing tallied two wins each to lead the University of Rio Grande men's wrestling team in Saturday's Grand View Open at the Ignit Sports Complex.
     Moyer, a junior from Urbana, Ohio, picked up his wins in the 157-pound Open division, while Lopez - a freshman from Columbus, Ohio - went 3-1 in the 157-pound Freshman/Sophomore bracket.
     Moyer's day began with a 3-2 loss to Easton Larson of host Grand View, but he rebounded with three consecutive wins in the consolation bracket - winning by fall over Moses Torres of Oklahoma City University at 4:52, defeating Baker University's Kale Slater by medical forfeit and posting a 14-2 majority decision over Peyton Asbury of Central Methodist.
     Moyer's day concluded with a 4-1 sudden victory loss to Diego Machado of St. Ambrose University.
     Lopez opened with consecutive wins - a 5-2 decision over Colin Menold of Southeast Community College and an 11-0 majority decision over Chad Herbert of Labette Community College - before losing by fall at 0:45 to Chance Davis of Iowa Central Community College.
     He finished by pinning Trent Evans from William Penn (Iowa) at 1:02.
     Blessing, a freshman from Point Pleasant, W.Va., earned his wins at 141 pounds in the Freshman/Sophomore bracket.
     Blessing dropped a 16-8 majority decision to Ethan Boles of Barton in his opening match before rallying to pin Tristan Becker of Southeast Community College at 4:32 and post a 10-0 majority decision win over Ryan Dement of Oklahoma Wesleyan.
     He was ousted in the third round of the consolation bracket after dropping a 4-1 decision to Trevin Arlt from Midland (Neb.).
     Four others representing Rio Grande - senior Amir Harris (Trotwood, OH), sophomore Pate Eastin (Granger, IN), freshman Ben Sloan (Ironton, OH) and freshman Davin Skinner (Olive Hill, KY) - all earned one win each.
     Harris went 1-2 in the 157-pound Open division, with the victory coming in a 16-9 decision over Brandon Harris of Briar Cliff (Iowa), while Eastin also went 1-2 in the 174-pound Open division, rebounding from a loss in his opening match to win by fall at 2:03 over Kohlter Mariscal of Graceland University.
     Skinner went 1-2 in the 157-pound Freshman/Sophomore bracket with his win coming by fall at 5:24 over Dionisi Ballas of St. Ambrose University, while Sloan defeated Kayden Blake of Barton by medical forfeit in the second consolation round of the same bracket.
     The RedStorm's three remaining grapplers in the event all went winless in their respective weight classes - senior Kaylin Foust (Charlotte, NC) in the 157-pound Open, junior Bruce Wagers (Cincinnati, OH) in the 285-pound Open and freshman Gary Reno (Hillsboro, OH) in the 184-pound Freshman/Sophomore bracket.
     Rio Grande is set to return to action next Saturday at the Life University Open in Powder Springs, Ga.
