Bearcats end Rio win streak

OWENSBORO, Ky. - Host Brescia University dominated the University of Rio Grande on both sides of the net and rolled to a 25-21, 25-16, 25-14 win over the RedStorm, Saturday evening, in River States Conference men's volleyball action at The Moore Center.
Rio Grande, which had a seven-match winning streak snapped, slipped to 8-3 overall and 0-1 in the RSC with the loss.
The Bearcats climbed to 6-5 overall and 1-0 in conference play as a result of the win.
The RedStorm hit just .060 for the match with 24 kills and 20 errors in 67 total swings.
On the defensive side, Rio was credited with just two block assists.
Meanwhile, Brescia hit .333 for the match with 36 kills and 12 errors over 72 attacks.
The Bearcats also tallied two solo blocks and 16 block assists on defense.
Malo Vandewalle led Brescia with 11 kills, while William Hernandez and Finn Berger finished with 17 and 11 assists, respectively.
Mustafa Yildiz added a solo block, five block assists and three service aces to the winning effort, while Miguel Veloso had four digs.
Junior Otavio Tonoli (Campinas, Brazil) led Rio Grande with seven kills, while sophomore Camilo Murillo (Cali, Colombia) and senior Mitch Bartecki (Valparaiso, IN) had 11 assists each. Murillo and sophomore Aevin Dotter (Pickerington, OH) had five digs apiece.
Sophomore Thomas Lhoste (Courbevoie, France) had two service aces in the loss.
Rio Grande is slated to return to the court next Saturday when it travels to Indiana University East for another RSC contest.
