MILLIGAN, Tenn. - The University of Rio Grande men's volleyball team collected a road sweep of Bluefield (Va.) University and Milligan (Tenn.) University in a non-conference tri-match, Wednesday night, at the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
The RedStorm knocked off the Rams in their opener by scores of 30-28, 25-21 and 25-17 before defeating the host Buffaloes 25-20, 25-9, 25-22.
Rio Grande, which has now won three of its last four matches, improved to 4-9 as a result of the sweep.
Senior Caden Donaldson (Jackson, OH) led the RedStorm against Bluefield with 13 kills, while sophomore Mitch Bartecki (Valparaiso, IN) had 23 assists and junior Sam Kaylor (Lewis Center, OH) finished with 11 digs.
Bartecki and junior Tyler Miller-Bross (Loveland, OH) both had a solo block and three block assists.
Kyle Pietzrak led the Rams with 14 kills, while Benedict Somes had 25 assists and Colby Mutter was credited with 15 digs.
Freshman Jakob Tuz (Katovice, Poland) led Rio at the net Milligan with nine kills, while Bartecki had 29 assists and junior Seth Mohr (Canton, OH) finished with a team-high six digs.
Rio Grande finished with a .221 attack percentage after totaling 39 kills and 22 errors in 77 attacks.
The host Buffaloes hit -.060 after finishing with three more errors (15) than kills (12) in 50 swings.
Camden Mills had four kills, while Chandler McReady had five digs and Joel Duzan was credited with nine assists, a solo block and a block assist.
Rio Grande is back in action on Saturday when it opens the home portion of its schedule with a tri-match involving Cumberland (Tenn.) University and Warren Wilson (N.C.) College.
The RedStorm and the Phoenix will square off in Mid-South Conference play in the noon opener at the Newt Oliver Arena before facing the NCAA Division III Owls in the 6 p.m. nightcap.
Cumberland and WWC will play at 3 p.m.
