RedStorm trio named to All-MSC teams

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Three players representing the University of Rio Grande have been named to the All-Mid-South Conference men's volleyball teams.
Junior Caden Donaldson (Jackson, OH) was among those named to the 14-player First Team, while sophomores Sam Kaylor (Lewis Center, OH) and Ethan Johnson (Hamilton, OH) were each part of the 15-member Second Team.
Donaldson led the RedStorm with 309 kills, while ranking second on the squad in both digs (143) and service aces (26).
Kaylor led Rio with 28 service aces, while ranking second on the team in kills (233) and fourth in digs (119).
Johnson topped the RedStorm in solo blocks (11), block assists (50) and total blocks (61), while ranking fourth with 105 kills.
Rio Grande finished its regular season at 7-19 overall and 2-8 in conference play. The RedStorm are seeded fifth in the MSC Tournament and will face fourth-seeded Campbellsville University in Friday's quarterfinal round.
Georgetown (Ky.) College's Ryan Gunn was named the MSC Men's Volleyball Player of the Year by the conference coaches, while teammate Kacper Dobrowolski was named Setter of the Year.
Gunn recorded 235 kills in 21 matches for Georgetown and averaged 3.41 kills per set. He leads the conference and ranks seventh in the NAIA with a .351 hitting percentage. Gunn's kills per set rank third in the MSC while his total kills rank fourth.
Dobrowolski totaled 408 assists and 9.5 assists per set in 13 matches this season. His 408 assists rank sixth in the MSC.
Cumberland (Tenn.) University's Caleb Ginnings was named the MSC Defender of the Year and Midway (Ky.) University's Jai'Den Chinnis earned Freshman of the Year honors.
Ginnings led the Phoenix with 265 digs and ranked first in the conference and eighth in the NAIA in that category. He averaged 3.2 digs per set which ranks 10th in the NAIA.
Chinnis recorded 91 kills in 18 matches in his freshman campaign for Midway. He recorded 26 total blocks with four solos.
Georgetown's Andrew Palmer was voted the MSC Men's Volleyball Coach of the Year by his peers, while JB Brinkerhoff was named the Assistant Coach of the Year.
Palmer and Brinkerhoff led Georgetown to its second-straight MSC regular season conference championship. The Tigers headed into the tournament with a 19-6 record.
The conference also recognized a Champions of Character Team, as well as Academic All-Conference awards.
The student-athletes who were honored on the Champions of Character Team were nominated by their coaches based on their leadership on campus and in the community while demonstrating the five core character values of the NAIA.
Rio's representive on the list was sophomore Sam Winhoven (Pickerington, OH).
A total of 36 student-athletes earned Academic All MSC honors.
In order to be nominated by an institution, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and must be in their third term or fourth quarter.
Campbellsville led the way with nine honorees, while Cumberland and Georgetown each had seven honorees.
Rio Grande had four honorees including Donaldson, Johnson, Kaylor and sophomore Seth Mohr (Canton, OH).
